18-year-old Ukrainian tennis player obtained Russian citizenship: details.

The Ukrainian tennis player obtained Russian citizenship
18-year-old tennis player Dmitrii Shirokii, who previously represented Ukraine, is now a citizen of Russia. This information was confirmed by the publication 'Glavkom'.
International tennis organizations ITF and ATP no longer consider him a Ukrainian player. In their databases, his surname is accompanied by a white flag, which indicates Russian affiliation. His name has also been transliterated into English – it is now Dmitrii Shirokii.
Career and Connections
Shirokii is from Donetsk and has previously participated in tournaments, including in occupied Crimea. He studied at the 'Vikort-Crimea' academy and now has ties with a tennis academy in Serbia founded by former player Janko Tipsarevic.
Currently, his position in the ATP world ranking is 1617, with his best result being 1587 in October 2024. In the ITF ranking, he reached the position of 616. His Instagram account is subscribed to 'Tennis Federation of the DNR', which may indicate his ties to occupying structures.
