Israeli forces rapidly advance deep into Syria after the fall of Assad's regime - WP.

After the rebels captured the capital of Syria, Israel began seizing military posts in the southern part of the country. This is the first Time since 1974 that the end of the Yom Kippur War was declared. Arab countries consider this an illegal occupation and warn of potential destabilization of Syria. They are trying to restore public order after the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad's regime.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu calls it a 'temporary defensive position.' But Professor Eyal Zisser from Tel Aviv University believes that this step by Israel is a 'big mistake.' The Israeli government has faced difficulties in assessing the consequences of the overthrow of Assad's regime.
Israeli Defense Minister Katz stated that the military has been authorized to seize positions outside the demilitarized zone controlled by the UN, which separates the Golan Heights and Syria. Israel's goal is to create a buffer zone free of heavy weaponry and terrorist infrastructure on the southern border to protect the country.
