In Russia, a teenager was sentenced for setting fire to a Su-34 at an airbase.

A court in Chelyabinsk, Russia, sentenced a 17-year-old boy for setting fire to a Su-34 combat aircraft, which ignited at the airbase.

According to the press service of the Chelyabinsk Regional Court, the teenager was found guilty and sentenced to eight years in a correctional colony. The investigation established that the boy set fire to the aircraft in January 2024 at the Shagol airbase in Chelyabinsk.

According to the FSB of the Russian Federation, he acted on the orders of an unknown person who promised to pay 4.5 million rubles. The teenager received 25,000 rubles to carry out the task, having entered the military facility through garden plots.

The boy was detained within a day after the incident. On January 4, Ukrainian military intelligence published a video of the burning aircraft. Earlier, another teenager from Dagestan was arrested for attempting a sabotage at a facility of the Russian Armed Forces in Chelyabinsk.

The Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine previously reported that a Su-34 bomber was on fire at the Shagol airfield. There is currently no available data on the assessment of the aircraft's damage.

The arson of the Su-34 aircraft in Chelyabinsk occurred due to an order from an unknown person who promised the boy money for this act. The court issued a verdict to the teenager, who is now in a correctional colony for eight years.
