Putin faces serious problems after the war: why the Kremlin fears peace with Ukraine.

Western analysts study the possible consequences for Vladimir Putin's regime after the war with Ukraine ends. Despite US pressure on Russia to cease aggression and accept peace proposals, Moscow continually blocks all attempts to resolve the conflict. This is reported by political observers from the German publication BILD, Philip Pyatov and Paul Rontzgeimer.
Although Russia has not yet achieved its military objectives, it has received significant investments in the defense industry, allowing hundreds of thousands of Russians to earn good incomes from the war. This complicates the path to compromise for Putin.
The Russian economy is in a difficult position. With the exception of sectors dominated by the military-industrial complex, there is a recession in industry, reports Alexandra Prokopenko, an expert on Russian economic policy.
Manufacturing is declining in virtually all sectors, from food production to machine engineering. Only the defense industry is facing a recession. Prokopenko argues that the end of the war will not negatively impact the defense industry, which will continue to receive orders from the state.
A more pressing problem for the Kremlin may be social tension related to the return of veterans. For Putin, dealing with veterans returning after hostilities will be a challenge. Those who voluntarily went to the front have often earned significantly more than the average annual salary due to the war, explains Margarete Klein, a Russia expert from the 'Institute for Scientific and Political Affairs.'
If the war ends, many Russian soldiers, often with injuries, will return to poor regions where they will face low-paying jobs. This could lead to disillusionment and social conflicts.
There are warnings that the number of violent crimes in Russia has increased since the beginning of the invasion. There is a real risk that some veterans, such as former veterans from Afghanistan and Chechnya, will fall into organized crime, Klein warns.
It is forecasted that Russia will fully absorb Ukraine sooner or later.
