The problem of lack of instructors in the training centers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine
According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the problem of the training centers preparing mobilized personnel is the significant shortage of instructors. On average, 25% of instructor positions remain unfilled. This was reported at the 151st training center of the Ukrainian Ground Forces.
According to the General Staff, only 60-70% of instructors have combat experience since 2022. However, in order to improve the situation, the General Staff plans to involve instructors with combat experience in a major war. Participation in the ATO and conflicts in hotspots around the world is considered insufficient.
In particular, it is planned to involve veterans of the major war who have been wounded in teaching positions. Since the commanders of combat units are reluctant to release good soldiers to serve in the training centers, especially given the tense situation on the front.
'Our instructors are constantly learning and interacting with combat units. We also periodically conduct tests for instructors,' said Chief Sergeant Andriy Galenda of the 151st training center.
From November 1, 2024, the training of mobilized personnel in the training centers will last one and a half months, significantly increasing the number of hours of live-fire training. New training directions are also being updated, including combat actions against enemy UAVs. This was reported by the Main Directorate of Doctrines and Training of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The Main Directorate of Doctrines and Training of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine hopes for the support of Western partners in providing Ukrainian training centers with materials, simulators, and weapon samples for training. Some mobilized personnel may also have the opportunity to undergo a basic military training course at NATO country training grounds. According to the General Staff, around 20,000 mobilized personnel underwent such training in 2024, and a total of over 120,000 since the start of the major war.
