The fall of the dictatorial regime provides the opportunity to build a peaceful future in Syria - UN Secretary-General.

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres stated that Syria has the opportunity to create a future that is sustainable and peaceful after 14 years of war and the fall of the dictatorial regime.
Guterres emphasized that Syrians must decide their own future. 'My special envoy, Geir Pedersen, will work with them in this direction,' he reported.
The UN Secretary-General stressed that much work remains to ensure 'a political transition to new institutions.'
He called for calm and avoidance of violence during this 'vulnerable Time.' Guterres added that respect for diplomatic and consular premises and personnel must be ensured in accordance with international law.
'Sovereignty, unity, independence, and territorial integrity of Syria must be restored... We will continue to help Syrians in rebuilding their country, where reconciliation, justice, freedom, and prosperity will become a reality for all,' emphasized the UN Secretary-General.
