Putin announced the formation of a 'buffer zone' along the border with Ukraine

The President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, has ordered the creation of a so-called 'buffer zone' along the border with Ukraine. He announced this information during a video conference with government officials, reported by Russian propaganda media 'RIA Novosti' and 'TASS'.

Spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Georgiy Tikhi, emphasized that the formation of a 'buffer zone' is possible on the territory of Russia, especially if Ukraine conducts operations in the Kursk region. He stated this while commenting on Putin's statement.

Putin claims that the occupying forces are allegedly already 'solving tasks' to create the mentioned zone and 'actively suppress the enemy's firing points'
. Russia has previously expressed the necessity of creating a 'security zone' along the border with Ukraine due to shelling and drone attacks.

Reaction of the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to Putin's statement

Georgiy Tikhi noted that Putin's statement indicates that it is Russia that is hindering the achievement of peace in the region. He called for increased international pressure on Russia to force it to cease its war and aggression.

Ukraine emphasizes that all conducted military actions are defensive and aimed at reclaiming occupied territories.
