Ukrainian doctors performed 467 organ transplants in 11 months of 2024. Among them were 311 kidneys, 93 livers, and 63 hearts.
'In 2024, the National Health Service of Ukraine signed contracts for the provision of medical services to patients in need of organ transplantation with 40 hospitals. The most transplants were carried out at the First Medical Association of Lviv, the National Institute of Surgery and Transplantology named after O.O. Shalimov, and the Heart Institute of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine,' reported the Ministry of Health.
There were also 376 transplants of hematopoietic stem cells, 54 of which were for children. This is 15% more than last year.
'The leaders are the National Cancer Institute, the Cherkasy Clinical Oncological Center, and the Kyiv City Center for Nephrology and Dialysis. This year, the National Scientific Center for Radiation Medicine, Hematology and Oncology of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine joined the institutions performing stem cell transplants. The first allogeneic transplant was performed at the National Cancer Institute. Now such operations are performed in four institutions in Ukraine,' the Ministry of Health noted.
Ukrainian doctors have performed over 1500 organ transplants in four years.
Currently, over 3,000 patients are waiting for transplantation.
From 2024, the State fully compensates the costs of organ transplantation as part of the Medical Guarantees Program.
