Scale of Russia's War Crimes: Ombudsman Received 30,000 Appeals Regarding Prisoners' Rights.

The Commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada for Human Rights, Dmytro Lubinets, reported that the Ombudsman's Office received almost 30 thousand appeals regarding violations of prisoners' rights by Russia during 2024. One of the main priorities is the return of Ukrainian citizens who are in captivity in Russia. According to Lubinets, 4552 prisoners of war have already been returned, including 174 civilians.

During his speech in the hall of the Verkhovna Rada, Lubinets stated that he would prepare a separate report on violations of the rights of Ukrainian prisoners of war by Russia. A total of 29,957 appeals on this issue have been received by the Ombudsman's Office. In addition, more than 13.5 thousand appeals regarding violations of the rights of active military personnel and over 1200 appeals from veterans were received.

According to Lubinets, the Ombudsman's Office organized 284 meetings with the families of prisoners of war and missing persons over the past year. The most meetings took place in Kyiv, where more than 800 families gathered.
