In the village of Mala Loknya, 14 km from the Ukrainian border, Russian military have turned women's correctional colony No. 11 into a fortress and are putting up fierce resistance. It is possible that even the colony guards are participating in the defense of the facility, journalists report.
Since 2011, 203 convicted female criminals sentenced to terms ranging from 10 to 20 years of imprisonment have been held in the colony.
Several dozen Russian soldiers defend the colony by building barricades and using watchtowers as firing positions. Large buildings are being used as protection against Ukrainian attacks.
Ukrainian military are shelling the defenders using German-made Marder infantry fighting vehicles and are attacking the guard tower at the entrance to the colony with drones.
Russian military bloggers confirm that Mala Loknya has been almost completely surrounded by Ukrainian units, but Russian Armed Forces soldiers continue to hold the defense. The Russian Ministry of Defense claims that all Ukrainian troop attacks have been repelled.
A frame from the colony appeared in a video by the 95th Separate Air Assault Brigade of the AFU.
