Chinese hackers breached over 400 computers of the US Department of the Treasury - Media.

Hackers from China launched a massive cyberattack on the US Department of the Treasury, gaining access to over 400 employees' computers. According to the report, the attackers gained control over divisions dealing with sanctions policy, international relations, and intelligence activities. They also stole employee data and more than 3000 files, including documents on sanctions policy, foreign investments, and organizational schemes. The attackers did not harm the agency's secret systems and emails. The report presented to Congress indicates the unprecedented scale of this intrusion. The cyberattack was detected in December, and the attackers acted methodically, gathering documentation and conducting operations during off-hours to avoid detection. Counterintelligence is currently assessing the damage caused. Official Beijing denies its involvement in these cyberattacks.
