ICAO recognized Russia as responsible for the crash of the Malaysian 'Boeing'.

The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) confirmed that Russia bears responsibility for the tragedy of flight MH17, which was shot down over Donbas in 2014.
ICAO believes that the Russian Federation violated international conventions by prohibiting the use of weapons against civilian aircraft during flights.
In the coming weeks, the ICAO Council will consider the issue of compensation for damages from Russia.
The complaint against Russia was submitted to ICAO by Australia and the Netherlands in March 2022. In June 2024, the Russian side refused to participate in the process of reviewing this complaint.
The international investigative group established that the plane was shot down by Russian militants using the Buk missile system.
In November 2022, a court in the Netherlands decided in a criminal case regarding the downed aircraft and convicted former 'defense minister' of the 'DPR' Igor Girkin and two other individuals for the destruction of the aircraft and the murder of passengers.
The Boeing 777 of Malaysia Airlines was shot down in July 2014 over Donbas, killing 298 people. This tragedy ranks among the top ten deadliest aviation disasters in history.
Official confirmation of Russia's responsibility for the crash of flight MH17 may have serious consequences for political relations between countries and international cooperation as a whole. This decision may set a precedent in similar situations of violations of international law in civil aviation.
