The European Commission Unveils New Opportunities to Support Ukraine
President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen stated that the partnership between the EU and the UK in the field of defense opens new opportunities for joint assistance to Ukraine.
According to von der Leyen, this cooperation will create new prospects for European industry and ensure open coordination in providing support to Ukraine. This could involve joint procurement of military equipment for transfer to Ukraine as well as investments in the country's defense sector.
'We remain united around Ukraine's struggle for its survival. We are firmly committed to a complete and unconditional ceasefire, which must lead to a just and lasting peace in Ukraine,' emphasized von der Leyen after the EU-UK summit.
One of the key agreements signed during the summit in London is the partnership in the field of security and defense.
'This will facilitate deeper cooperation in various security and defense initiatives, including defense industry, military mobility, peace support, and crisis management, as well as combating hybrid threats. This is the first step towards the UK’s participation in the EU’s defense investment program SAFE, which includes 150 billion euros in loans for joint procurements. Our security and defense partnership paves the way for such joint procurements,' highlighted the President of the European Commission.
