'We Value Life, Not Parades': Zelensky Responds to Putin's Proposal for a Short Ceasefire.

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, called for increased international pressure on Russia to achieve a real ceasefire. He made this call after an attack by drones from Russia that damaged important civil infrastructure in the Cherkasy region.
'Russia struck an object that is not related to the war, but concerns people. This happened even against the backdrop of global demands on Russia to end this war and establish silence,' Zelensky noted.
The President emphasized that Ukraine positively responded to the U.S. proposal for a complete ceasefire back on March 11. The Ukrainian side also suggested that Russia stop shelling civilian objects and extend the Easter ceasefire for 30 days.
Zelensky criticized the new Russian proposal for a ceasefire, which is set to take place only on May 8. 'Why should everyone wait until May 8 to stop the fire? This is done to provide Putin with silence during the parade. We value human life, not parades,' Zelensky emphasized.
The President insists on an immediate, complete, and unconditional ceasefire for 30 days to create a foundation for genuine diplomatic negotiations. According to Zelensky, only international pressure, particularly from the United States, can force Russia to agree to this proposal.
The President also announced plans for diplomatic meetings and negotiations with Ukraine's partners. 'The most important issue is the security for our people, support for Ukraine, and support for diplomacy so that Russia cannot continue this war,' he stated.
Zelensky also mentioned negotiations with the U.S. on a partnership agreement, noting that the document is now aimed at equality and could be beneficial for both nations.
Regarding the situation at the front, the President thanked the defenders of Pokrovsk for their resilience and highlighted the actions of Ukrainian troops in the Kursk and Belgorod directions. In these areas, Ukraine continues to conduct operations on Russian territory. 'Our strength at the front helps us in diplomacy,' Zelensky emphasized.
