Prices are biting: the cost of one vegetable has skyrocketed by more than 50% in a month.

Main vegetables have become more expensive in supermarkets of Ukraine

According to the Ministry of Finance, as of May 2, 2025, prices for main vegetables in Ukrainian supermarkets have markedly risen compared to April figures. The most significant price increase was for onions, which have risen by more than half their cost.

Onions demonstrated record price growth

Currently, the average price for bulb onions in Ukrainian supermarkets is 32.80 UAH per kilogram, while in April this indicator was 21.25 UAH. Over the month, the price of onions increased by 54%. The lowest price is offered by the Novus chain - 24.89 UAH, and the highest by Megamarket, where the price is 42.60 UAH per kilogram.

Blue onions have also become more expensive - from 53.47 UAH in April to 68.70 UAH at the beginning of May, which corresponds to an increase of 28.5%.

Carrots also show significant price growth

The average price for carrots currently stands at 47.45 UAH per kilogram, which is 11% higher than the April figure of 42.74 UAH. The cheapest carrots are in Auchan - 39.99 UAH, and the highest price was recorded in Megamarket - 54.90 UAH per kilogram.

The situation with potatoes remains stable

Potato prices have undergone minor changes. The average price has increased only by 3.6%, from 32.28 UAH in April to 33.43 UAH at the beginning of May. In Metro and Auchan chains, potatoes cost the same - 29.90 UAH, while in Megamarket - 40.50 UAH per kilogram.

The price for young potatoes remains stable at 42.60 UAH, while pink potatoes have slightly increased in price - from 37.81 UAH to 38.38 UAH per kilogram.

The overall trend of rising vegetable prices continues, which may affect the cost of the grocery basket for Ukrainians in May 2025.
