Britain Increases Pressure on Iran: Seven Citizens Detained on Suspicion of Terrorism.

The police of Great Britain have detained eight men, seven of whom are Iranian citizens, as a result of two investigations. Five men aged between 29 and 40 were arrested on Saturday on suspicion of terrorist activities related to a conspiracy against a specific target. The arrests occurred in Swindon, West London, Stockport, Rochdale, and Manchester. Four of the detainees are Iranian citizens, while the nationality of the fifth is currently unknown. Police officers are maintaining contact with the potential target of the attack, but details are not disclosed due to operational considerations. London police commander Dominic Murphy noted that various investigations are underway to establish motivation and identify further threats to public safety. The arrests occurred amid growing attention to Iran's activities in Britain. According to counterintelligence reports, 20 conspiracies organized by Tehran, posing a potential threat to residents of Great Britain, have been uncovered since 2022.
In 2023, an Austrian citizen was convicted of conducting 'hostile reconnaissance' against the headquarters of Iran International, a channel that criticized the Iranian government. The following year, an Iranian journalist working for Iran International was stabbed in London. The government of Great Britain has recognized Iran as a country with the highest level of recorded influence, requiring it to register all political activities on its territory. In another investigation, three Iranian citizens aged between 39 and 55 were detained on suspicion of activities threatening national security under the National Security Act that came into force in 2023. Searches are being conducted at the addresses of the detainees.
